lay title

A lay title should be understandable, informative, and have the right keywords to make sure that the patients easily find the trial.

As the lay title is one of the first pieces of information that is displayed, good lay titles help patients searching clinical trial registries

layman's title

Or layperson's title (if you want to make it gender neutral).

title for laypersons

'or lay title' seems OK to me. Using the possessive would seem the title is by the layperson rather than for them. IMO 'layman' would be inappropriate for inclusivity reasons by now.

See the link below. I only ever see the word layperson in connection with the EU directive on clinical trials summaries.

agree philgoddard : You can still get away with "layman" in speech - I would use it - but not in writing.
