Is there a point in taking the Dip Trans Level 7 exam when you are already more or less established as a professional translator with more than 20 years of experience (besides the pleasure to have a master level degree)?

I followed master classes in Germanic Studies at the Montaigne university in Bordeaux (2016/17), but, due to some health issues at that time, I wasn't able to finish my studies and take the exam.

I'm in a similar situation. I've been translating professionally for 27 years, but have been too busy doing the actual work to go to classes that teach theory. I've decided to go ahead and try for as many certs as I can this year. I suppose it's mostly an ego thing, but I'd like to have something to point to beyond 150+ film and TV series translation credits.

I've mainly been looking at the ATA since I'm located in the US, but CertTrans and DipTrans look interesting.

edit: Never mind, DipTrans only offers English INTO Japanese, not the other way around. And CertTrans doesn't offer it at all. That's a shame.

A translation degree might help you to get more work, since some agencies ask for it.

But I doubt it will help you to get better paid work. I don't think rates have a lot to do with having a degree or not in our business.
