A few urgent questions... I have a Word file here that needs to be translated and the client asks for "Log File, TMX and Clean Word file".

What would the "Log File" be in memoQ terms?)
Or do I simply need to use Trados for this project? I'd prefer to use memoQ if possible...

statistics? Jul 25, 2013

I think your client means the statistics.

Best to ask him or her...

No, probably not - the log file in Trados refers to the file you can generate listing all the potential problems (tags missing, inconsistent translation, extra spaces, ignoring termbase suggestions etc.) found by the software after running "verify", i.e. a QA check.
MemoQ offers a similar function. From the Operations menu, select "Run QA". When the tab opens up with the list of problems encountered, click on "Export report", and it will generate a html file listing the issues. Admittedly, this is not the same format as the Excel file created by Trados for its QA logs, but that may not be a problem (ask the client).

I'm presuming you know how to create a TMX file from the translation, but just in case...
Create a separate TM for the file you're working on and make this the primary TM in your project. When you have finished the translation, from the project home tab, select "translation memories" from the sidebar, then select your project TM and click on export to TMX.

Hope that helps!

Probably Statistics (but ask just to be sure) Jul 25, 2013

Hi Thomas,

Better ask your client.

My first thought was also that they want you to provide them with a file with the document analysed against a TM, and/or just analysed for internal fuzzy matches. In CATCount (http://www.catcount.com/ ) language, e.g., a Trados Workbench log file is something that can be created in memoQ by running Statistics and then exporting it using the third optio

In CATCount (http://www.catcount.com/ ) language, e.g., a Trados Workbench log file is something that can be created in memoQ by running Statistics and then exporting it using the third option: 'TRADOS compatible'.
