A new ProZ site is being built. Key features of the planned new site:
* An updated design / look-and-feel
* A new menu (a "megamenu") that is hopefully more intuitive and easier to use
* A universal directory that combines elements of the following current site features:
- the freelance and business directories
- the job posting system
- service-specific pools

- TM-town matching between outsourcers and providers (based on prior work)
- the "LOOP" operations portal (where services can be ordered and automatically routed)
* A new profile with service-specific tabs (replaces service-specific pool profiles)
* A simpler, symmetrical approach to reviews (1- to 5-star reviews of both outsourcers and providers)
* A workspace and repository where work files can be uploaded
* Increased support for hourly billing, subject-matter expertise, remote interpreting
* Support for communities of practice (ex. "Interpreters @ ProZ"), with dedicated discussion spaces, sharing, etc.
* Live site support for members, and outsourcers, from the ProZ team
Members are invited to view a clickable prototype of the new site and provide their feedback. (The prototype is not functional; its purpose is to convey the planned functionality.) If you are a current site member interested in reviewing it, please let me know. We'll release the link on Thursday.

Thank you, everyone. We have had twelve members express interest in reviewing the prototype of the new site, which is probably a good number for this week. I plan to send the link out at about 10am (NY time) on Thursday.

I haven't seen a big discussion about new features or concepts needed.
So I think new design it's the change for change's sake.

Hi all,
Beta testing is underway. (We've been reaching out personally.) We're doing one-on-one user tests first and then will send the links out to others.
Thanks to all those participating!
Development of new site? Why not fix glitches in present site? | Aug 23, 2024 |
Having several times noticed discrepancies between the new and old job boards, I have just sent the following support request. It would be interesting to know whether other members have noticed the discrepancy and what they think about it in the light of the proposal to create a new site.
My support request was as follows:
"Old-style jobs board shows job dated 21 Aug; new-style board most recent job shown 19 Aug. Why discrepancy?

This is not the first time I have pointed out the discrepancy in the old-style and new-style job boards. The discrepancy remains and it seems to me that the new style board is not as up to date as the old style board. This may mean loss of opportunities for members of Proz, both non-paying and paying members. Instead of proposing root and branch changes to the site (recent forum post) can you not simply sort out this matter, which seems fairly crucial to me." ▲ Collapse

I think it's pretty clear by now that fixing the bugs is and has been a major problem. So a brand-new website is probably the best idea (if it's really a brand-new one, of course).

Curious, though, if there still will be forums. I really enjoy them, but they are as old-fashioned as my late grandmother's clothes. It would surprise me that they would still be a part of a brand-new website.

I can't think of ProZ without its forums. They are a core piece of the platform imo, many people surely use them without participating actively as a useful source (and sometimes for fun).
