Google has announced it will stop with Google Translate, because the system behind it is messing itself up:

This website blames spammers, but it is rather GT itself that was inherently unsound.

So not all is lost.

I was wondering about that when I first heard that it was going to be discontinued. I would be willing to pay some amount to have it still be available to use with Trados, for instance, as I do find it to be a quite helpful resource for the language pairs I work in.

Google still needs to send out HTML for the web page to work. As long as they do that, the HTML can be parsed and the translated text extracted. It's a drag to program, compared to using a well-defined API, but "Google Translate in applications" won't go away until they add a "captcha" image.
