Unable to import document - keeps getting stuck De persoon die dit onderwerp heeft geplaatst: formeracctus (X)

I have a very long PDF document to translate and the client has provided the OCR file so that I can use MemoQ. I have tried to use 'import with options', but it only gets so far and then it gets stuck at around 50%. It says 'import OK, creating HTML preview files'. I have tried cancelling and starting again but it keeps getting stuck in the same place. Would anyone be so kind as to suggest what might be causing this issue and recommend a way to fix it? | | |
Hi,
Try saving the file with another name. If the Word file has .docx extension, you can try saving the file as a .doc file.
You can also try running CodeZapper on the file. This is a small add-on for Word which removes redundant tags in the underlying document structure.
Good luck. | | | VIP9N Local time: 18:08 Russisch naar Engels + ... Cleaning the doc would help you | Oct 13, 2014 |
As far as it happens with an OCR-ed doc, it is not a surprise. The OCR-ed docs can contain hundreds of hidden codes, which have to be cleaned. As the previous colleague told you, use the Code zapper or, I prefer it, TransTools (Word-macros, which you may download and use it for free from here http://www.translatortools.net/word-about.html). Then, of course, uncheck "Create Preview" when you import it (with options). In TransTools use Resave as RTF and back to Word. Try docx instead of doc, or, even, a rtf.
Moreover, I would add that when I OCR files to Word, I reformat them - save as pure text and format again in Word. In spite it is a time consuming thing, when done, it works without showing any codes or problems. You are to choose. ▲ Collapse | | | esperantisto Local time: 18:08 Lid 2006 Engels naar Russisch + ... SITE LOCALIZER
The problem is probably about the file format. For example, ABBYY FineReader produces .doc files that are not really MS DOC, but just RTF with the .doc filename extension. Since you did not provide any useful detail, it’s hard to guess further. Thus, make sure that the filename extension of your file matches the real file format.
P. S. Avoid converting to/using the DOCX format. It has been reported to be problematic with memoQ.
