MemoQ clean and unclean files De persoon die dit onderwerp heeft geplaatst: Katherine Angel

Hello - I use MemoQ rather than Trados or WordFast, and I have been asked to translate a document and send back both the 'clean and unclean' files. I know that in Trados and WordFast this is possible but I am not sure that it is in MemoQ. Can anyone confirm whether this is the case - and if is possible in MemoQ, to alert me how to do so? Many thanks!

to produce the clean file, click "Export (stored path)"
to produce the unclean file, click "Export bilingual" and choose "Trados compatible bilingual DOC"

Interesting. But will this produce a file in the original layout or just the segments with Trados coding in between, similar to External View in Deja Vu? Katherine's client probably counts on getting a file that looks as if it was processed with Trados, which AFAIK you can only get by presegmenting it in Trados first (also eliminates eventual segmentation differences).
Although I must admit that I do not know MemoQ too well and I may be wrong.

Just export the file as "Trados compatible bilingual doc" | Aug 4, 2008 |
... in "Export bilingual".
No need for Trados presegmenting provided you have the latest version.

Yes. That's why it's called "Trados compatible"

The file in its original layout.
Although there may be slight variations in segmentation rules, in practice segmentation will vary more from one translator to another than between TWB and MemoQ.

Thank you. And yet... | Aug 4, 2008 |
Hello! Many thanks for these. I have tried doing as you suggest (clicking "Export bilingual" ) but the end product is simply the document in English (the target language) and not a bilingual document. Any ideas what may have gone wrong? I have tried it several times but still no luck....
Thanks! Katherine | | |

To verify whether the exported document is bilingual try pressing the ¶ button in Word (sorry if you knew that).
No I didn't know that! Thank you so much! Best wishes, Katherine
