Glad that this thread has helped a few to know St Pat!

10% of Americans today have Irish blood (more than 30 million people - which is more than 7 times the population of Ireland), and of course are proud of it!

The history of the "shanty Irish" in America is like that of so many immigrants. What didn't kill them made them stronger.

Thanks for the nice link, but I actually meant the use of the name "Patty" as opposed to "Paddy"!!! I have heard of the day being Irish, couldnt not have!!
I dont think Patty is commonly used in Ireland so was wondering if it was a US term.

It is amazing how it is celebrated in so many countries nowadays that dont even have an Irish community/connection.
Anyways top of the morning to you!
