I'm a big fan of the science fiction works of Scottish writer Iain M Banks. State-of-the-art - which I'm currently rereading - is a collection of short stories that can serve as an introduction to the author's Culture novels.

The last book I read was “Le Pays des Autres” by Leila Slimani, a French author I’m very fond of. I'm thinking of buying all her books, except for "Une Chanson Douce" (I bought and read it last year). | | | Purely for pleasure | Jul 30, 2022 |
For me it was Anna Lembke's "Dopamine Nation", finished it last night. Great read!

As for me, the last book I read, and keep always reading on a daily basis as a maniac bookworm, was ''El plan infinito'' of Isabel Allende, in Greek. | | | Just for pleasure | Jul 30, 2022 |

Congratulation Edith!
And bon courage because a newborn can be very hard work especially when you're used to sleeping soundly all night long! | | | Kay Denney Frankrijk Local time: 19:42 Frans naar Engels

If you enjoyed that, you'll also love The "House of the Spirits" by the same author, one of my all-time favourite books, I love it even more than "100 years of solitude" which is the great classic in the magical realism genre. And I also preferred "Love in the Time of the Cholera" also by Garcia Marquez come to think of it.
The last book I really enjoyed (not quite the question asked but pfff) was Delphine de Vigan's "D'après une histoire vraie" ("Based on a True Story") which you literally only get on the very last line of the very last page. | | | Dan Lucas Verenigd Koninkrijk Local time: 18:42 Lid 2014 Japans naar Engels Mr Atkinson's Rum Contract | Jul 30, 2022 |
By Richard Atkinson. I enjoyed it, but would probably need to read it again to fully understand the complex family interconnections. One eye-opener to me was the breadth and depth of popular support in Britain for the abolition of slavery in the late 1700s, with petitions being submitted to Parliament by all regions of the country. Details and reviews may be found here.

Currently reading Four Thousand Weeks, which - as a perpetually "busy" person - has already grabbed my attention.
I second neilmac's recommendation of the Culture series conceived by Iain M Banks. He left us far too early.
Regards,
Dan

I'm a huge thriller fan, so I'm reading a lot of this genre, mainly in my target/native language, so, as a translator, I stay in contact with my mother tongue. | | | Irving Reyes Dominicaanse Republiek Local time: 14:42 Engels naar Spaans + ... Science Fiction | Jul 30, 2022 |
