and wouldn't see the use. I hardly use any paper anymore, and when I do, then it means the paper is important and must be filed. But in case, I have a stove too!

Had to get one to comply with the confidentiality agreement I signed when working for the police, some years ago - files were not to be sent over the Internet either. I kept it and use it for all sensitive documents. Some of the shredded paper is used to light the fireplace, but as paper is environmentally not as clean as wood, I keep it to the minimum required.

To shred tons of credit card, insurance, subscription and what-not-membership offers that are all neatly pre-printed with our full personal information ("for your convenience"...), as well as all tax stuff, credit and banking card receipts and finance-related computer print-outs that are obsolete but are nobody's business.

I destroy confidential documents from clients when copies are handed over in person regarding child abuse, divorce, medical records, etc. I don't want them to fall into the wrong hands. Some of my clients refuse to send copies over the internet. I think it's important too against ID theft. I've not tried the biological version of the "2 young children" though - they can be mean and efficient though
i inherited one from my father...after he died i used it to shred tons of his old documents. I now use it to shred my stuff...old bills etc. And although I try to avoid printing unless necessary, I use it for shredding translation related documents.

Yes. Confidentiality is paramount in this profession. For document shredding, I partner with a local doctor's office to share the cost and we use a professional company, Cintas, that shreds all of my paper documents (I print everything at least three times for proofreading - it is impossible to proofreading on screen). All paper copies are shredded within 30 days and all electronic copies (source and target) are deleted in 60 days.

I find it essential, for shredding anything that relates to customer documents as well as for me personnaly. Any documents that should not be put back together by anyone who is bored enough and for whatever reason are shredded.

for all the reasons Nicole Schnell mentioned. But I only use it if something has to be shredded immediately, because a local radio station conducts free "shredding drives" twice a year, where they bring in these huge commercial truck-mounted shredders, and they take disks, too. You can even watch them dump your boxes into their shredders if you want. The stuff then gets recycled.
