New York City is where I was born. I was raised in rural North Carolina. With a strong wanderlust, I joined the US Army hoping it would be my ticket to world travel. Luckily for me, after spending six months stationed in Louisiana, I was transferred to Darmstadt, Germany, where I finished my three-year enlistment. I spent time in Frankfurt and settled in Detmold, Germany. Germany was my home for ten years. Its culture and language became part of my DNA. The Netherlands will always be a third home to me. I lived there for fifteen years. I also soaked up the language and culture like a sponge.
