Note to GBChrista Your point is well taken; I agree. The trick, however, is to know when the abbreviation is not the same in the target language. Sometimes one cannot know without knowing what the abbreviation means. Thanks to Lars and his fine cite, I now know. Have a nice weekend!

Stokes is Cgs unit of kinematic viscosity. Not very common you might want to you SI units instead (1 stokes = 100 centistokes = 1 cm2/s = 0.0001 m2/s.)

Some abreviation dont require translation as they are the same whichever language you use.
This is typical for all scientific and mathematical publications.
