Today I was working on a project that took me all day long to translate, its an Excel file and I was working on it in SDL Trados 2009.
When I finished the translation I tried to save the target file and I got this error:
Failed to save target content: Input string was not in a correct format.

An all-too-common problem
Jan 23, 2012
Diego, a lot of us have run into this same problem with Trados, and there are a number of things you can try. Start by searching the ProZ forum for "failed to save target" (use the quotation marks) and take it from there. I did this several months ago, and found my fellow translators' suggestions much more helpful than anything on the SDL website. Good luck!

One basic hint

The "Worksheet name" segments should be no longer than 32 characters. For more complex Excel files containing formulas with cross references between the individual worksheets, it is recommended that these are not translated at all.

Thank you Stanislav, I tried reducing the name of the file from "CUADROS E INFORAMCION.xlsx" to "CUADROS.xlsx" and tried to save it but it's showing the same error. And the File doesn't contain difficult formulas but some of its cells are blocked for edition (they just have numbers thou and didn't appear in trados)
I asked the client for the original file to see if the blocking is causing the Trados to malfunction. I'll post back once I have tried that.
Thank you Lisa for your suggestion too.

Mi idea didn't work
Jan 23, 2012
Well, the client sent me the original file, with all cells enabled for edition and tried to save it once more, I got the same result, the error. The file does not have any formula, it just has a lot of worksheets.
I'll have to screenshot my trados translation and have my couple do it manually on excel (SDL Trados: The Flintstones edition FTW) while I work on the remaining 12,000words because I don't have the time to deal with this right now.

Anyway if someone comes with any idea for a solution, I'd appreciate it! ▲ Collapse

Not the file name is the culprit
Jan 23, 2012
Stanislav referred to the names of worksheets in the Excel file. Change them back to original and try again to save target.
Did you already tried to copy the content of the file into a completely new file and save this as Excel 2007?
