How does the "line limit" feature in the TXT filter work?

Hello everyone

I notice that the current version of OmegaT (3.1.5) contains a feature in the TXT filter that limits line length in the target file. However, I've tried it and it it doesn't affect the line length in the target file at all. What are the usage instructions for this feature?

I tried "10" and "50" as values. My source text is:

The rain in Spain. The Rain in Spain.The rain in Spain. The Rain in Spain.The rain in Spain. The Rain in Spain.The rain in Spain. The Rain in Spain.

My target text is:

asdfThe rain in Spain. asdfThe Rain in Spain.The rain in Spain. asdfThe Rain in Spain.

I expected this (for 50):

asdfThe rain in Spain. asdfThe Rain in Spain.The
rain in Spain. asdfThe Rain in Spain.

Basically, "Line length" tells where the line could started to be cut, and "Max line length" gives the hard limit.

I tried "10" and "50" as values. My source text is:

The rain in Spain. The Rain in Spain.The rain in Spain. The Rain in Spain.

My target text is:

asdfThe rain in Spain. asdfThe Rain in Spain.The rain in Spain. asdfThe Rain in Spain.

I expected this (for 50):

asdfThe rain in Spain. asdfThe Rain in Spain.The
rain in Spain. asdfThe Rain in Spain.

It could have been
asdfThe rain
in Spain asdfThe
etc. (otherwise, use 50 and 50).

You have found a bug, which seems to be triggered by the fact that your test is only a single line. I will report the bug.
If you test with a more usual text file (containing several lines), you should see that the target file is closer to what you expect.

Thanks. I haven't installed a new version for a while, so now I'm working my way through the changes.txt file to see what new features are available.

Thanks. I am using the changes.txt file but the actual request number isn't always included in the feature change comment (perhaps I should just have read the file further down).

You have found a bug, which seems to be triggered by the fact that your test is only a single line.


I'm a lazy tester... I often begin testing a new feature with as little effort as possible, and that usually means testing it with the shortest possible text that would theoretically trigger the feature.

I just realised that this is ambiguous. I tried 10 and 10 first, and when that didn't do anything, I tried 50 and 50, thinking that 10 may be under some kind of threshold.

The fix will appear in the next release of the Latest version.
