CPF/MF do responsável

Hello Rosana-

I have been living in the United States for over 10 years, so I know a bit about the IRS (enough to get by). As far as I understand, all US citizens are issued a Social Security Number (equivalent to the CPF) when they are born. If you are not a US citizen, but need to pay taxes here, you will be issued either a SSN or an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN). Employers are issued an Employer Identification Number (EIN). I am not sure what number companies use to pay for their own taxes, if the EIN or another number, but I think it is the EIN. Here is a website that may help: http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/international/article/0,...

I hope this will shed some light. All the best...

Hi Rosana... I see that the IRS W9 form has a field for the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). I reckon that must be the US equivalent of CPF.

As for businesses, the IRS page below says:
"An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number, and is used to identify a business entity."

So it looks like the CNPJ would be a Federal Tax Identification Number...

Thank you for your attention, Martin! Now, the translation I´m doing is targeted at American citizens/businesses. Will they know what "Individual tax registration number/Ministry of Finance" and "Company tax registration number/Ministry of Finance" are?
And you´re right about CGC being the old acronym, I´ll let the guy know that it should be CNPJ.

Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) of the responsible party

agree Donna Sandin : absolutely, for American audiences Other suggestions are way too literal, in my opinion. In fact in the US it is prohibited to refer to the SSN as a TAxpayer ID number although de facto that's what it is.. In Brazil numbers are all different

Individual tax registration number/Ministry of Finance

Executive Officer's ITIN

Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (or ITIN) is a United States tax processing number issued by the Internal Revenue Service.
"O responsável" in Brazil is usually the executive director of the company named in the Articles of Association of the company as the one with powers to sign company contracts etc.

Thanks for the help, Kevin!

agree Lais Leite : Correct for the USA, but I'd use just the equivalent acronym you've gave = ITIN ;)
