English term
elevate the market place
English
Bus/Financial
Business/Commerce (general)
Marketing
From a promotional video about Nike France.
The breakthrough here was to regroup the country PNL into one regional hub.
When Decathlon was making 25% of France’s business, we had to follow their games.
At a European level, they only made 5%.
So we could decide who we wanted to partner with and how we could collaborate to ***elevate the market place***.
I'm not sure what that really means. Thanks!

: How do you know? Why the 5? I'm a native speaker, and I've never heard it before.

Because I have been working in fashion since 2012 and this expression it is pretty common, not only in fashion, but in any high-end business context.

: Pure guesswork so CL5 is excessive//Oh yeah, your (non-native) English is better than mine as you've been "alphabetised"! LOL

increase our presence in the market
I think it means "increase their presence in the market", in other words, they want to increase their share in the market. At least it fits the context perfectly well.

elevate your brand in a specialized marketplace
Elevation in terms of business can be defined as when someone in the field or something achieves a higher rank or status. It can also be defined as the process of moving or raising to a higher position, raising a product, etc. Therefore, elevating your brand is about making strategic choices about how to use those values and engage your customers.

: Totally agree, and that is what I suggested above, but some freelancers here on ProZ have miserable lives and too much time to spare accusing others and demeaning other people's suggestions.

: yeah, I have "a miserable life" and just want to "demean" LOL. This is over-translation and "elevate" is just not idiomatic English

boost the marketplace/take the marketplace to the next level
I reckon this is either a mistranslation, or a French person speaking less than perfect English. So, with apologies to those who don't speak French, I Googled "éléver le marché" and got the following.
We still can't be certain of the meaning, but I think I'm in the right ballpark. I think it's referring to the market as a whole, not one company's situation.
Élever le marché des échafaudages: principaux fabricants et tendances actuelles, perspectives, demande de l’industrie, taux de croissance, ventes, taille, type et prévisions 2027

Le coût de ces mesures reste encore incertain mais si Macron parvient à fournir des résultats visibles qui aideront à ***élever le marché français*** et satisfaire la population française ainsi que les partenaires européens, cela sera un excellent atout majeur.

This sounds like a French person speaking imperfect English.
https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/marketp...
and https://www.bluecart.com/blog/what-is-marketplace
It appears twice in the text, which is a transcription of a video. I'm not even sure what marketplace here really means, as opposed to the simpler "market". Could the phrase mean "expand our presence in the market"? "Increase our revenues"?
"We are proud of our commitment to making a positive impact in the community and social issues, and we are honored we can partner with others to elevate the marketplace," said Susan Salka, President and CEO of AMN Healthcare.

Here, it sounds like it just means "make the world a better place".
