German term

nicht visiert

German to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) Bank transfer confirmation
What does "Status: nicht visiert" mean on a bank transfer confirmation from Switzerland?

Discussion

Edith Kelly Sep 5, 2019:
Had we had more information at the very beginning, all these discussions might have been mundane. Based on the question, not signed off is the term used in CH. I meanwhile agree that "not confirmed" may work based on the discussion.
D. I. Verrelli Sep 5, 2019:
"Not confirmed" or "Not approved"? Based on the mixture of descriptions in this Discussion, I wondered whether "Not confirmed" or "Not approved" might work as a translation. They could be consistent with there being a problem with the transaction. Yet they might still work (esp. "Not confirmed") for a transaction that did go through after all.
But I found no convincing evidence for either one after a quick search.

Presumably etymologically linked to "visé": https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/visé#Verb
D. I. Verrelli Sep 5, 2019:
Feedback "I was unaware of the fact that Swiss terminology is used in South Africa."
I have not seen anybody make a claim that Swiss terminology is used in South Africa. But I hope that we can allow consideration of suggestions from translators located in any country.
Richard L. Weiss (asker) Sep 4, 2019:
DeepL.com says "unaudited."
Richard L. Weiss (asker) Sep 4, 2019:
It's a transfer from one company's current account to the current account of another related company, and both accounts are at the same bank in Switzerland. This is part of a litigation case. I think I cannot send you a copy, even if it's redacted. No one has claimed that the transfer didn't go through. It's not even an issue. The transfer sheet is in the bank statement documents of the transferring company. It is stamped "Gebucht" with a date. The title of the document is Kontouebertrag. It is on bank letterhead. It states the balance of the transferring and the receiving accounts. There are sufficient funds listed in the transferring account for the transfer.
Edith Kelly Sep 2, 2019:
Richard It does not sound right. The transfers I copied were made on a Saturday and you can see it says vollvisiert. They were executed today.
a) if a translation order, ask your client
b) if for your private information, did you use a CH account for a transfer? If so, you can write to me privately and give me the name of the CH bank
c) if not, country of origin of the transfer? Recipient in which country?
Here a text in which nicht visiert occurs www.treuhandvision.ch › documents › Kreditoren

Should this be correct, than it is not a simple transfer but a much more complicated action, only you can know as you have the full text
Richard L. Weiss (asker) Sep 2, 2019:
Edith I do not question what you see on your screen. I’m concerned about the documents in front of me. Your original translation of not accepted, meaning the transfer won’t be carried out does not seem to be correct, as I believe these transfers wrre carried out. However, it could mean that the transfer has not yet been executed, for instance if the order was placed on a non-banking day. So, the order may be received on a weekend, but will be executed on the next business day. How does that sound?
Edith Kelly Aug 30, 2019:
Richard whatever you might not have seen, short of sending you a screenshot of transfers I made, I can assure you that this appears on the screen
Richard L. Weiss (asker) Aug 29, 2019:
unvisiert / nicht visiert Among the documents in my set, I have also seen "Status: unvisiert" in addition to " nicht visiert." However, I have never seen "vollvisiert" or anything else in that field.
Edith Kelly Aug 29, 2019:
and I do not care what Langenscheidt says, but I see what my Swiss bank says. After all, I do not have to rely on a dico. So you have a CH bank account at all? I hope not, might not be legal.
Edith Kelly Aug 29, 2019:
Richard when you make a transfer (by computer logged in in your CH bank account), the first thing you see is "vollvisiert". As soon as the transfer is made, it says "ausgeführt". I do that practically every day. "Nicht visiert" means that a) you do not have enough money on your account, b) there is s.th. wrong with the bank account of the recipient or with number on the pink slip that accompanies invoices or b) s.th. else is wrong. When e.g. you pay today, but mark the payment for transfer a week later, then it says "vollvisiert". I hope that clarifies matters.

Another alternative, based primarily on comments in the Discussion section (above). But please note that this translation is not confirmed....

Note from asker:
Possibly. Maybe the document (bank transfer confirmation/statement) was automatically generated and has not been reviewed.
Langenscheidt says "certify" for "visieren" in Swiss German.

neutral writeaway : how does the Linguee ref confirm the suggested translation?

disagree Edith Kelly : it relates to a bank transfer and neither to a statement, document or test. And is Swiss German. // no, when a transfer goes through, it says vollavisiert in CH. I was unaware of the fact that Swiss terminology is used in South Africa.

not signed of / accepted

visiert: abzeichnen, als gesehen markieren
It is the contrary of vollvisiert, meaning that the bank will make the transfer
not visiert: the transfer will not be made, is not accepted

Richard, here you go. Payments made today but will be executed on 2.9 - and then it will read ausgeführt. Does this convince you?

Note from asker:
This doesn't seem to be correct. This is on many bank transfer confirmations/statements regarding transfers that did actually go through.
Also, in the "Status" field, I have never seen any other entry other than "nicht visiert."
Among the documents in my set, I have also seen "Status: unvisiert" in addition to " nicht visiert." However, I have never seen "vollvisiert" or anything else in that field.

neutral D. I. Verrelli : No comment on the substance, but surely there's a misprint that none of those agreeing has mentioned yet: "not signed of" —> "not signed off"?!
