There is controversy in Spain over the use of a new translation service in the country’s upper chamber of parliament.
The Partido Popular (PP) and the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (Partido Socialista Obrero Español, PSOE) have agreed to rule out the possibility of launching a system of simultaneous interpretation in the Congress of Deputies similar to the one implemented by the Senate on Tuesday for the co-official languages. It just seemed to me that to insist on using a language which needs to be interpreted for the majority of people in the Parliament to understand, when you are a native speaker of a language everyone understands, is political posturing.
