Known locally as La Resbaladilla (The Slide), this is situated on a sloping floor something like a ramp. It seems that the entire floor surface was once painted, but both the rain and water runoff have diluted the pigment, dispersing it over the surface and obscuring the images. It was possible to identify, define and record several anthropomorphic designs depicted face-on in a static posture and a number of attributes: a headdress in the form of antennae or filaments, vertical rods intersected by short lines, staffs, defined fingers. It was also possible to observe various small radial circles and a scene involving two anthropomorphs holding hands with a smaller human figure who stands between them, perhaps representing an allegory of a family or group. There are also various pectiform elements present which may represent birds.

Translation - English In a photograph of the Barranca de San Carlos, Chihuahua from 1892, the view is directed upward and far from the photographer. The foreground is somber with tall walls of rock, which seem perhaps also to flank the photographer, contrasting with the whitish color of the boulders strewn over the ground.
At the boundary between shadow and light, at the bottom of the frame are three people, providing scale and contrasting the great and the small, just as the photographer does by shooting the scene from below at a distance.
Behind them, the sunlight picks out the rocky textures and volumes of a ravine in the background. Paradoxically, the foreground is subordinated to the background, whose brightness promises new and dizzying vistas.
Everything in the image triggers signals relating to the affective and sensible dimensions of the landscape and the diversity of particular paths to knowledge that it then offers up for reflection and mental representation. Here, the visual record and the tools of arts-based disciplines (drawing, photography) are merged with the scientific, producing a morphological revelation of a nature simultaneous with human intervention as a journey that intersects with a landscape of this type and the emotion, vision, contemplation, and the attempt to control and order the external world that results.

Translation - English The Six Concertos for Two Obbligato Organs Composed by Fr. Antonio Soler for the Amusement of the Most Serene Infante of Spain, Don Gabriel de Borbón are all structured in two movements, with the exception of the second concerto, which consists of two allegros and a minuet. The first movement of all the concertos is in monothematic, binary sonata form. In fact, so little do they differ from the author’s works of the same name (i.e. the sonatas), that they would seem to have been composed at the same time. The second movement of each is a minuet with variations, although once again, concerto number two differs, substituting a minuet in traditional form (that is, without variations). All the variations are developed according to the same, immutable principle: Over the bass line of the same section of the minuet, the composer constructs the remaining fragments. It is not, therefore, a melodic variation on a given theme, but rather a kind of exercise in contrapuntal melody, constantly built atop the base structure.

Translation - English In the Asia-Pacific, extra-economic regionalism has developed alongside its economic equivalent and ASEAN members have been its foremost promoters. These governments, in the face the success of the economic reforms in socialist China during the 1980’s, were sensible to the effects of the appearance of this giant on three geographical fronts, each of them dominated by issues relating to politics, the economy and national security. In order to limit the negative effects of this sudden emergence on the economic, political and social successes achieved since the foundation of ASEAN, the association’s member governments decided to embark upon their own version of the “policy of containment”. Thus, while Henry Kissinger sought to modulate the co-evolution of the US and China by means of a system based on both bilateral and multilateral institutions, for the governments of southeast Asia, it was a question of regulating a collective evolution on a broader scale in order to overcome the structural imbalance implicit in the China-ASEAN relationship. To this end, in each of the three geographical arenas in the Asia-Pacific, the Pacific as a whole and globally, they sought to clinch the commitment of each the chief participants in order to construct systems of counterweights that would guarantee stability in each of these three geographic regions.

Translation - English In the year 1115, Purepecha king Taxgaxoan the First founded Yuririapundaro - the Lake of Blood. It earned its name from the series of bloody encounters that took place there as the Chichimec and Tarasco peoples struggled for control of the region, with the Tarascos finally coming out on top.
With the arrival of the Spanish in 1540 and the conversion of the natives to Christianity, Martin Cortes, son of the conquistador Hernan Cortes, was given command of the settlement. That same year the town itself was founded and another 20 years later it received a Royal Seal and the official name San Pablo de Yuririapundaro.
Following this recognition, various different religious orders arrived in Yuririapundaro. First came the Franciscans. These were followed by the Augustinians, who gave a new look to the town, first by building the lagoon, which became one of Yuriria's chief features, and then with the construction of the monastery, a marvel of sixteenth-century architecture standing on the lagoon's shore.

If I should die, think only this of me:
That there’s some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England’s, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.
And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.
Anthem for Doomed Youth. Wilfred Owen
What passing-bells for these who die as cattle?
Only the monstrous anger of the guns.
Only the stuttering rifles' rapid rattle
Can patter out their hasty orisons.
No mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells;
Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs,—
The shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells;
And bugles calling for them from sad shires.
What candles may be held to speed them all?
Not in the hands of boys, but in their eyes
Shall shine the holy glimmers of goodbyes.
The pallor of girls' brows shall be their pall;
Their flowers the tenderness of patient minds,
And each slow dusk a drawing-down of blinds.
A Dead Boche, Robert Graves
To you who'd read my songs of War
And only hear of blood and fame,
I'll say (you've heard it said before)
"War's Hell! " and if you doubt the same,
Today I found in Mametz Wood
A certain cure for lust of blood:
Where, propped against a shattered trunk,
In a great mess of things unclean,
Sat a dead Boche; he scowled and stunk
With clothes and face a sodden green,
Big-bellied, spectacled, crop-haired,
Dribbling black blood from nose and beard.
Translation - Spanish El soldado. Rupert Brooke
dio flores a amar, sendas do caminar,
sus vistas, ruidos, sueños de la felicidad;
Ya nada más de farsas; ni rezos ni repiques;
Serán las caras albas de niñas sus mortajas;
Robert Graves

Source text - English When the Mexican empire was planned our Civil War had been raging for nearly two years. From the standpoint of the French rulers, the moment seemed auspicious for France to interfere in American affairs. The establishment of a great Latin empire, founded under French protection and developed in the interest of France, which must necessarily derive the principal benefit of the stupendous wealth which Mexico held ready to pour into the lap of French capitalists,—of an empire which in the West might put a limit to the supremacy of the United States, as well as counterbalance the British supremacy in the East, thus opposing a formidable check to the encroachments of the Anglo-Saxon race in the interest of the Latin nations,—such was Napoleon's plan, and I have been told by one who was close to the imperial family at that time that the Emperor himself fondly regarded it as "the conception of his reign."
Napoleon III labored under the disadvantage of reigning beneath the shadow of a great personality which, consciously or unconsciously, he ever strove to emulate. But however clever he may be, the man who, anxious to appear or even to be great, forces fate and creates impossible situations that he may act a leading part before the world, is only a schemer. This is the key to the character of Napoleon III and to his failures. He looked far away and dreamed of universal achievements, when at home, at his very door, were the threatening issues he should have mastered. The story is told of him that one evening, at the Tuileries, when the imperial party were playing games, chance brought to the Emperor the question, "What is your favorite occupation?" to which he answered: "To seek the solution of unsolvable problems." It is also related that in his younger days a favorite axiom of his was: "Follow the ideas of your time, they carry you along; struggle against them, they overcome you; precede them, they support you."
