English to Czech: High Thigh Muscle Strength but Not Bone Mass in Young Horseback-Riding Females General field: Medical
Source text - English Abstract. To evaluate whether the type of weight-bearing
loading subjected to the skeleton during horseback-riding
was associated with differences in bone mass and muscle
strength of the thigh, we investigated bone mass and isokinetic
muscle strength in 20 female horse riders (age 17.9 ±
0.6 years) who were riding 7.0 ± 3.4 hours/week, and 20
nonactive females (age 17.8 ± 1.1 years). The groups were
matched according to age, weight, and height. Areal bone
mineral density was measured in total body, head, lumbar
spine, right femoral neck, Ward’s triangle, and trochanter,
the whole dominant and nondominant humerus, and in specific
sites in the right femur diaphysis, distal femur, proximal
tibia, and tibia diaphysis using dual X-ray absorptiometry.
Isokinetic concentric and eccentric peak torque of the
quadricep and hamstring muscles were measured using an
isokinetic dynamometer. There were no significant differences
in bone mass between the horseback riders and nonactives
at any site measured. The horse riders were significantly
(P < 0.05–0.01) stronger in concentric hamstrings
strength at 90°/second and 225°/second and in eccentric
quadricep and hamstring strength at 90°/second. Horseback
riding in young females is associated with a high muscle
strength of the thigh, but not with a high bone mass.

Abychom zhodnotili, jestli zatížení kostry během jízdy na koni souvisí s rozdíly v hmotě kostí a
silou stehna, zkoumali jsme hmotu kostí a isokinetickou sílu svalů u dvaceti jezdkyň na koni (věk
17,9 ± 0,6 roku), které jezdily 7 ± 3,4 hodin za týden a u dvaceti neaktivních dívek (věk 17,8 ± 1,1
roku). Skupiny byly rozčleněny dle věku, váhy a výšky. Koncentrace minerálů v kostech byla
měřena jak celkově v těle, tak v hlavě, v kříži, krčku, Wardovém trojúhelníku, stehně, v celé paži od
ramene k lokti, v určitých místech v pravé stehenní kostní dutině, stehnu u kolena, lýtku u kolena a
v kostní dutině lýtka, za použití dvojité rentgenové absorptiometrie. Isokinetická dostředivá a
odstředivá maximální síla kvadricepsu a hemstringu byla měřena isokinetickým dynamometrem.
Mezi jezdkyněmi a neaktivními nebyl žádný znatelný rozdíl, co se hmoty kostí týče, ať se měřilo
kdekoliv. Jezdkyně byly viditelně (P < 0,05 – 0,01) silnější v dostředivé síle pohybu hemstringu při
90 stupních za vteřinu a při 225 stupních za vteřinu, a v odstředivé síle kvadricepsu a hemstringu
při 90 stupních za vteřinu. Jízda na koni má u mladých žen za výsledek větší sílu stehna, nikoliv
větší hmotu kostí.

I started my linguistic career teaching English to students, helping them to prepare for final exams. For a few years I freelanced as an interpreter for the Police department, helping in taking depositions. At the same time, I studied Foreign Trade and IT at the University of Economics and Business and soon started my own IT business. During this time I kept doing linguistic work as part of the services and as a separate business endeavor.
I have closed my IT business in 2012 and graduated from Masaryk University with a master's degree in Psychology in 2017. I am currently a freelancer as Language Service Provider and have a private Psychotherapy practice.
In order to balance working with people with my work with text, I am looking for potential collaboration partners, where I could utilize my expertise and potentially have a positive impact on society.
