Brontekst - Engels The divine romance is portrayed poetically in Song of Songs. In Song of Songs the seeker passes through a process to become the Shulammite, the duplication of Solomon and a figure of the New Jerusalem (6:13, 4). The lover’s name, Shulammite, which is the feminine form of Solomon, is first used in Song of Songs 6:13, indicating that at this point she has become Solomon’s duplication and counterpart, the same as Solomon in life, nature, and image, as Eve to Adam (Gen. 2:20-23). This signifies that the lover of Christ becomes the same as He is in life, nature, and image to match Him (2 Cor. 3:18; Rom. 8:29) for their marriage. The lover of Solomon, having passed through various stages of transformation, has become Solomon’s duplication. The New Jerusalem will be a corporate Shulammite, including all of God’s chosen and redeemed people. (The Conclusion of the New Testament, p. 4372)
The poem, as a type, in this poetic book Song of Songs as the story of the love between a king and a country girl is a marvelous and vivid portrait, as the fulfillment, of the bridal love between Christ as the Bridegroom and His lovers as His bride in their mutual enjoyment in the mingling of His divine attributes with the human virtues of His lovers. The correspondence of the progression with its stages on these two sides of the poem and its portrait is the intrinsic revelation of the Holy Word of the omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent God. Our relationship with the Lord should be very romantic. If there is no romance between us and the Lord Jesus, then we are religious Christians, not romantic Christians. If you wish to know what I mean by romance, I would encourage you to read and pray-read Song of Songs. Pray-reading this book of romance will cause you to become romantic with the Lord.
As a whole, the Old Testament was spoken in the way of a covenant of engagement. This is the reason that Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Hosea all refer to God’s people as His wife. Even though His people wanted to divorce Him, the Lord would bring them back to Himself. He would betroth them to Him again. Hosea 2:19 and 20 say, “And I will betroth you to Myself forever; / Indeed I will betroth you to Myself / In righteousness and justice / And in lovingkindness and compassions; Indeed I will betroth you to Myself in faithfulness, / And you will know Jehovah.” In these verses the Lord uses the word betroth three times. The future tense indicates that this refers to the second betrothal of God’s people to Him, the betrothal in which the divorced wife is brought back to the Lord as her Husband. This indicates that the Old Covenant was a matter of espousal, of engagement.
The entire New Testament was written in the way of romance and courtship. The Gospel of Matthew speaks of Christ as a Bridegroom, and the book of Revelation refers to the marriage of the Lamb and concludes with a revelation of the New Jerusalem as the Lamb’s wife. The Lord is the One courting us, and we are His love, His spouse. Eventually, at the end of the New Testament, we have the marriage of Christ and His people. The entire Bible is God’s courting word. In the Bible we see that God is seeking our love. If we would keep God’s courting word, we need a responsive, affectionate love for Him. Peter was asked to love the Lord in this way, and Paul was constrained to love the Lord with such a love (2 Cor. 5:14-15). All believers need to love the Lord in this way (John 14:21, 23). As we have seen, this kind of responsive, affectionate love is depicted in Song of Songs, where we have a portrait of the love between the Beloved and His love (S. S. 1:2-4) (Life-study of Exodus, pp. 648, 650-652)

Onze relatie met de Heer behoort erg romantisch te zijn. Als er geen romance is tussen ons en de Heer Jezus, zijn we religieuze christenen, geen romantische christenen. Als je wenst te weten wat ik bedoel met romance, wil ik je aanmoedigen Hooglied te lezen en het biddend te lezen. Het biddend lezen van dit romantische boek zal veroorzaken dat je romantisch wordt met de Heer.
In zijn geheel werd het Oude Testament gesproken op de wijze van een verbond, een verloving. Dit is de reden dat Jesaja, Jeremia, Ezechiël en Hosea verwijzen naar Gods volk als Zijn vrouw. Zelfs al wilde Zijn volk van Hem scheiden, de Heer zou ze terugbrengen tot Hemzelf. Hij zou ze opnieuw aan Hem verloven. Hosea 2:19-20 zegt: “Ik zal Mij aan u verloven in eeuwigheid, Ik zal Mij aan u verloven naar gerechtigheid en recht, in genade en barmhartigheid; ja, Ik zal Mij aan u verloven met ware trouw, en gij zult den Heer kennen” (NLB). De toekomende tijd wijst erop dat dit verwijst naar de tweede verloving van Gods volk met Hem, de verloving waarin de gescheiden vrouw teruggebracht is tot de Heer als haar man. Dit duidt erop dat het Oude Verbond een zaak was van een huwelijk, een verloving.
Het gehele Nieuwe Testament werd geschreven op de wijze van een romance, een verloving. Het evangelie van Mattheüs spreekt over Christus als de Bruidegom en het boek Openbaring verwijst naar de bruiloft van het Lam en eindigt met een openbaring van het Nieuwe Jeruzalem als de vrouw van het Lam. De Heer is Degene die ons het hof maakt en wij zijn Zijn liefde, Zijn echtgenote. Uiteindelijk, aan het einde van het Nieuwe Testament, hebben we het huwelijk van Christus en Zijn volk. De gehele bijbel is het hof makende woord van God. In de bijbel zien we dat God onze liefde zoekt. Als wij het hof makende woord van God willen bewaren, hebben we een beantwoordende, tedere liefde voor Hem nodig. For more then thirthy years I have been a teacher, first of Dutch and then of Math, in secondary school. Beside this I did travel to many countries, all over the earth, to get to know the people, their culture, history, religion and so on. Through this many things changed in my life, for example: I married in Beijing a beautiful Chinese young lady and now we have two boys and one girl. At home several languages are being spoken: mainly Mandarin and Dutch, but also English, Cantonese, and Frisian.
Since 2003 I do translation work for the Church. This is to make the ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee available to the Dutch and to build up the Church, to spread the Gospel and to grow in our love for the Lord.
Right now it is more and more difficult to find and or keep a job, so I decided to make use of my translation skills to build up another way of making money to support my family and the Church. On the other hand, if I can make a living of it, it will give me and my family more freedom to do the things that we think are most important in life and of eternal value.
Talking about translation work, I am open to anything, as long as it is within my limitations, interest, and capabilities. You have to know that I am not a professional, having no degree in doing translations. Nevertheless I do like this kind of work and I love to play with words, understand the deeper meaning of it, and be a help to others who don’t know the language. I myself know by experience what it means not to know the language or how it can hinder the communication between people if you don’t know the language well enough. But above all, there is a common language too; it’s called LOVE.
