After moving to the United Kingdom in 1996 and working mainly in retail and hospitality services for three years I decided to attend university to complete a science degree. Studying for my BSc in Biology and Health Sciences raised my written and spoken English to an academic level. My research based dissertation included an extensive bibliography of more than 100 publications on the science and ethics of human genetic (therapeutic and reproductive) cloning.

Freelance Translator

I have been successfully translating for friends and family for the last 16 years. Earlier this year I took the plunge and registered as a freelance translator to be able to take on translation professionally. Since then I have translated mostly instruction manuals and websites. I specialise in the translation of scientific texts and have a special interest in travel and tourism.



October 2009-August 2012
Team Leader Oil Laboratory – Jones Environmental Forensics

As well as managing a small team within the oil and water laboratories, I have been responsible for the interpretation of whole oil analysis and writing up forensic reports. I was also involved in the auditing (Quality Control) and performing of various laboratory methods, mostly relating to oil and water pollution (e.g. PAH’s, PCB’s Petroleums). I am very familiar with terminology used in environmental laboratories especially relating to Gas Chromatography.



October 2002 - September 2006: Laboratory Technician- Alcontrol Geochem

This position has allowed me to expand on laboratory skills such as Microcolumn Chromatography, Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE) and Extraction by Soxtherm.


April 2001 - June2001: Research Assistant- University Hospital Groningen



Within the framework of my university degree course I have worked on part of a 4- year research project studying the psychosocial effects of parental cancer on children. This experience has given me a good understanding of the logistics involved and skills needed in preparing and conducting research projects.
