Spanish term

cortes de publicación

Spanish to English Art/Literary Photography/Imaging (& Graphic Arts) printing
Still coming across these terms that seem to be so specific to photography/printing/publishing. This one in particular is giving me a hard time because I can't imagine what "cortes" it refers to (style?). Thank you.
The text is the same as my two last questions, about setting up an exhibition on a Spanish photographer from the 1920s.
"Cuando no existían copias de época ni de autor, se han realizado copias actuales, positivando el negativo íntegro, salvo que existiera alguna publicación en la que se hubiese reproducido la imagen. En este caso hemos respetado los cortes de la publicación (libros, álbums, revistas...)."

Discussion

Thomas Walker Oct 4, 2015:
I think in some cases, at least, cropping also involves artistic decisions - how most effectively to present the image. However, these decisions may not have been made by the photographer, but perhaps by a book or magazine editor. Because of that, these cropped images would not be the first choice for an exhibition of the artist's work.
Helena Chavarria Oct 3, 2015:
I think it means cropping photos to fit them into the layout.

I agree with Helena, and this is how I would phrase it.
