Norwegian term

lektefarøy

Norwegian to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
The writer is describing a conflict he had when giving instructions on an oil rig.

Jeg husker spesielt en opplevelse. Han som var sjef for et stort lektefarøy sa at han ikke ville følge de påleggene jeg ga, og da ba jeg han pakke veska si og ta neste helikopter bort fra plattformen, og jeg fikk full oppbakking fra min sjef i Stavanger.
Proposed translations (English)
4 -1 lighter

Discussion

Christopher Schröder Aug 9, 2022:
Yes, I was just going to say it must be lekterfartøy
eodd Aug 9, 2022:
I imagine that this should read "lektefartøy" meaning a barge vessel

Norwegian term (edited): lekterfartøy

lighter

It's called a lighter - not for lighting up tobacco products - and longer than a barge : bugserbåt (Ansteinsson). Lighters are punted by a 'lighterman': an ancient profession on the Thames, as practised by the father of Martin Peters, one of West Ham United's 1966 Football World Cup-winning squad, so well before the Internet and ProZ.

Having worked at Battersea Wharf where products had been loaded on to a lighter, I would advise against using the Discussion Entered term of barge, even in the North Sea.
Example sentence:

Krankran for flytende lekterfartøy.

William Peters hoped his son would follow him as a Thames Lighterman.
