It can also refer to literally keeping a direct connection to the ground so that if an electrical current hits something, it will take that circuit to the ground instead of going through something else.

To "stay grounded" means to always use common sense and good logic in future decisions. To be not grounded would indicate someone who is easily persuaded in to doing things without really considering the consequences first
