The translation I've found for "cubeta" is "tray", but I have a creeping feeling this is not the right word here... TIA.

Without any more information, I think this may fit according to the context you've provided. More than a tray (which are usually flat or semi flat), I believe it is a metal container that is used to accumulate the oil that is discharged from the machinery and/or vehicle in question.
