Deforestation has reached approximately 20 percent of the world-wide greenhouse gas emission. Indonesia and Brazil is the third and fourth biggest emission-producing countries in the world, respectively, which is mostly because of deforestation. To prevent a catastrophic climate change, deforestation has to be globally ceased in the next ten years.

In Indonesia, the rate of forest damage has reached 3,8 million hectare per year, which concludedly means that every minute there are 7,2 hectare of damaged forest area. According to World Research Institute, from the coverage of approximately 130 million hectares of forest in Indonesia, 72 percent of them has ceased to exist. This means that Indonesia has merely 28 percent worth of forest left.

If this condition is not wisely acted upon and no action of salvation by Indonesian government and Indonesians alike is taken, then in a matter of two decades, Indonesia would not have any forest left.

Over-deforestation would not only cause the lack of water absorption, abrasion, and natural disasters such as erosion and flooding, but also the loss of circulation and formation center of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Oxygen (O2), essential for man’s survival.

This is due to Indonesians’ critical lack of attention and awareness to the environment themselves. Indonesian forests will never be better if environment awareness is not improved through the means of either information or education.

It is undeniable that only a small fragments of Indonesian citizens can enjoy the flow of information through the internet as they haven’t the computer knowledge, in addition to the fact that Indonesian internet fee is still beyond the reach of Indonesian low-economy class citizens.

This is what motivated KabarIndonesia to publish printed tabloids to be freely distributed for those who need them. Through this printed tabloids, accurate information as well as counseling to the readers in the effort of increasing their ecology awareness. In the end they could actively participate to preserve the forest. Without the cooperation or aid from the local citizens all effort of forest protection would not succeed.
