          • Definition(s)
            • A widely used method of case hardening steel that eliminates scaling and the tendency to decarburisation and results in clean components. Sodium cyanide is the common media for this process, usually heated within the range of 900 930oC. It is advisable to pre heat the components in neutral salts to avoid a temperature drop resulting from immersing cold components into the cyanide. After carburising, either single quench hardening or refining and hardening and tempering is carried out. Engineering Dictionary

            • As the rate of heating is very fast in liquid carburising, greater economy is achieved, if smaller is the case depth. - Engineering Notes by
            • The shape and size of components are limited mainly by furnace size and capacity, although pack and liquid carburising may not be suitable for hardening inside small deep holes and recesses. - OpenLearn by
            • This article describes the uses of the liquid carburizing process carried out in low and high temperature cyanide-containing baths, and details the noncyanide liquid carburizing process which can be accomplished in a bath containing a special grade of carbon. - ASM International by
