Scammers impersonating clients in order to steal translations from service providers have been around for a long time, but in the last few years there have also been many reports of scammers impersonating translators to scam translation companies.
A new tool has been introduced that allows agencies to search for and confirm translators' ProZ.com profiles by email address. This tool can be useful in verifying that you are dealing with an actual translator, and not someone impersonating that translator.
This tool is free to all ProZ.com corporate members.

Submissions are now open for the new ProZ.com community book project, an initiative that has been launched to help you share useful information with colleagues, while promoting yourself as an expert in a given field or topic.
The community book will feature articles written by ProZ.com members on topics of interest to translators, interpreters and other language professionals. All site members are invited to submit an article to be reviewed for possible inclusion in the book. The deadline for submissions is February 29th.

(6) Conference for freelance translators and interpreters: 18-19 June, Porto, Portugal

APTRAD (Associação Portuguesa de Tradutores e Intérpretes) is holding its 1st international conference on the 18th and 19th of June, 2016, in Porto, Portugal.
The theme of the conference will be "Stages in the career of a freelancer" and will tackle the different phases in the career of a professional translator and/or interpreter and what each of those phases requires. All stages of a freelance career as a language practitioner will be considered.
You may recognize this conference's organizer, Paula Pinto Ribeiro, who also organized three very successful ProZ.com conferences in Porto over the past three years, so this event promises to be stellar.
