Hallo allemaal,

Ik zit nog steeds tot over mijn oren in gels en cremetjes en hun ingrediënten.

Iemand enig idee hoe ik bovenstaande term kan vertalen?
Ik ben inmiddels zover dat ik gevonden heb dat het een vetzuur-ester van glycerine en caprilyc acid (octaanzuur) is, maar zou graag een korte vertaling willen hebben.

"een vetzuur-ester van glycerine en caprilyc acid": Dat is een zeer eenduidige omschrijving. Merk op dat de Engelse naam al verhaspeld is: de ester bevat 1 molecuul glycerol en 3 caprylzuur. Andersom, zoals het Engels suggereert is smpelweg niet mogelijk.

Vergat de systematische naam te vermelden: Glyceroltrioctanaat. In jouw context is de triviaalnaam (zo noemen chemici goede maar niet-systematische namen) waarschijnlijk beter passend.

disagree  TvNellen (X): Bijna goed maar niet helemaal. Esters heten X-yl-Y-aat, dus niet X-ol-Y-aat. Caprylic acid is inderdaad octaanzuur maar capric acid is decaanzuur. Dat heb je weggelaten.
